Lambton joined Leeds as a trainer in November 1957 as an
assistant to Raich Carter after coming to public attention as a
fitness trainer for British boxers. When Carter's contract was not
renewed, Lambton was made acting manager, before finally having the
appointment confirmed in December 1958.
In such a short time in charge, he had little influence on the
way things were done at the club - but his signing of Don Revie on
the playing side was to be one of the most significant events in
the club's history. After falling out with the board, he left in
February 1959, and went on to briefly (for 3 days!) manage
Scunthorpe, before enjoying a longer spell at Chester.
