An inside forward with a keen eye for goal and a cracking shot,
Frank Dudley made his name at Southend, joining as a 16-year-old
before moving to a Leeds side undergoing some rebuilding after the
war. He was top scorer in his first season at Elland Road but moved
on after 18 months. He kept up his good scoring record throughout
his career before his retirement in 1957.
Susan Russell says: After retiring from playing, Frank became
Youth Coach at Southend United. He still lives in Southend, and
regularly watches The Blues.
Dick Cunningham says: A smashing chap, an inspiration to
youngsters. I played for Southend Utd colts when I was 15. Frank
said I had perfect footballers feet - pity the rest of me wasnt
good enough!
