Baird had a very brief spell at Leeds, but kept up an excellent
goals to games ratio, but he failed to settle south of the border
and moved back up to Aberdeen at the end of 1958. He subsequently
played on the losing side in the 1959 Scottish Cup Final before
moving on to Brechin and Highland League sides.
Shaun Baird says: This is my grandfather from my step father's
side of the family. After football he moved to London as a
bricklayer but moved back up to Aberdeen a few years back to be
close to his family.
Robert Maxwell says: Hughie did his national service in the
R.A.F. and I played football with and against him at R.A.F.
Pitreavie. He was playing for Airdrie at the time (1952/53) and I
remember him showing me the black, blue and yellow blotches on his
ribs on the Monday after playing against Willie Woodburn (Rangers)
on the Saturday. He played a good game.
Kenny Baird says: Hugh Baird is a cousin of my Dad's and used to
pal around with my Uncle Adam in their youth. The family lost touch
years ago so if anybody can update me on Hugh and the rest of the
long lost Family I would be very grateful
