Gary Liddell was a striker from Billy Bremner's old school who
had little opportunity to get into the first team after signing
professional forms on completion of his apprenticeship. He enjoyed
a good run at Grimsby, despite a series of persistent injuries, but
a broken leg in 1980 saw him lose his place. A brief spell in
Scotland was followed by a return to Yorkshire with Doncaster
Rovers. His son Andy has enjoyed some success with Barnsley and
Wigan.
