Jabba's Comments

Son of Manchester City's Ken (but unrelated to Dallas's Cliff), Barnes best years were also at Maine Road, scoring in the Final and picking up a medal as City beat Newcastle in the League Cup in 1976. In 1979 a series of high-profile, high-price moves sent him round numerous clubs, but it was the start of a downward spiral for him as the weight of expectation brought about by the large transfer fee was never justified. At Leeds in particular, he was a club-record signing, but his failure to deliver the goods (and the goals in particular) in a team struggling against relegation did much to seal the fate of the team and manager Allan Clarke. Odd stat time: he is half of the only father and son pair to bag a 1st Division hat-trick since the war.

alan says: I no him and do work 4 him

Blaine says: I love Peter Barnes

Peter Barnes says: This guy has ruined my life, my name is Peter Barnes, and i live in Manchester, now i can't do anything without a reference to him. I could never play sports as a child due to the torment of being associated with him

Richard Haddlesey says: He is the reason I support WBA. The guy was the most talented player I have ever seen. An enigma but god I adored him and still do. I wish I could get hold of one of those elastic training balls he sponsored in the late 70's. I love the bloke, the greatest left foot ever.

Jose F. Serrano Rodas says: sorry for my english!!! i met peter when i was ten, in seville, he played in real betis. he lived too near from my father's house, and at the final of each match, peter came to our home to have dinner, whith my family (Rafael and conchita - my father and mother, and Angelica - my sister) i suppose peter never read this message, but if you could made him to read it, i'll be very happy. we miss him an his whife, we met his first son that was born in seville and we talk every day of him in our home. we still living at the same place. thank you for everything ... and for "peterito" the knee!!!!
