There were a few grumbles when Jim Melrose was signed - he'd
scored the 1st leg goal for Charlton that had helped them beat us
in the play-offs in the previous year - and he never really made it
into the first team. A much-travelled forward who never scored
enough goals to become an automatic first choice and never
fulfilled the promise that had brought him caps at Schoolboy and
U21 level as well as an appearance for the Scottish Football League
in a representative match.
Andrew Hodgson says: I've played golf with Jim and did all the
joinery work on his house. As a sad Man City fan always enjoyed his
company. I class him as a good friend (not the greatest footballer
though).
Paul Weston says: My colleague at work is claiming to know this
person. Her name is Evelyn Woods. Can I have confirmation please, I
think she's nuts. She reckons he has a brother called Frankie
jim murty says: Does anybody know where he is now and have his
details?
Anon says: He lives in Macclesfield Cheshire, and I believe he
scouts for Leicester City. If you know him and ever speak to him,
be prepared to be a good listener! He is NEVER short of a word or
three.
twodogsbluearmy says: I saw him play at Leicester, he was my
favorite player at the time. he used to get his car fixed at my
uncles garage, he was always there getting it fixed (bit of a old
banger). he was a very nice bloke, he got me the whole of the
leicester squads autographs. he is now the chief scout at leicester
city.
ross melrose says: he is great because he is my dad
James Heath says: I used to live up the road from him adn was
mates with his son's Jim melrose junior and craig melrose
Ross Melrose says: Jim is a great Dad to me Cause he always ring
to see how am gettind on for my local football team
toonfan says: I think you are doing Jim a bit of a disservice,
he was Leicester's record equalling signing at £250,000 He
also hit(no pun intended)the headlines when he suffered a cheek
fracture in April 1988 when playing for Shrewsbury after being
elbowed by Mr TV Chris Kamara, an incident that led to the 1st
civil court action for an on-field incident in England. Kammie got
done for GBH, I bet that never get's a mention on Sky. Didn't Jim
also get done in a ticket scam while chief scout at Leicester,
although I think there was an appeal.
Glasgow Frank says: I saw him play at Thistle. Craig and Melrose
were the ham and eggs of football at the time. We need them
now!
ryan dunfield says: was good friends with his son jim. lost
contact though, after heading back to canada. class family,
hilarious antics
