Bobby Sibbald never managed to get himself ahead of Paul Reaney
in the right-back reckoning, but he did okay when he moved to York,
captaining the side in 1969-70. He moved on to Southport and
enjoyed a good run with the side as they won the 4th Division in
1973, and spent a few summers playing for the LA Aztecs in the NASL
- getting to play alongside Best and Cruyff into the bargain. He
settled out in the USA and was appointed assistant coach at the
Aztecs in 1980.
Andrew Osler says: We lived down the street from him in
Southport when I was a nipper in the mid-70s (next door was Mick
Hartland). When we had a family jolly to LA in 1980 we stayed at
his house, and saw an Aztecs game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. I
was very young at the time, and my mother doesn't remember such
things, but there was another "very famous" foreign player at
Sibbald's gaff one night, I don't remember who, but I do have a
photo of a couple of large feet - I like to think they're
Cruyff's.
Rebecca Sibbald says: I am a Sibbald but I'm not sure if I am
related to him.
Eugene William Sibbald says: I saw Bobby Sibbald play in San
Diego against the San Diego Sockers when he was with the Los
Angeles Aztecs.
Jeff Scott says: I was a ball boy for the LA Aztecs in the
1970's and got to see Bobby train every day. What a great guy! On
match days I sat on the bench with the players, and Bobby was one
of my favorites, along with GK Graham Horn and or course George
Best. What a lucky kid I was to spend my afternoons with these
players at age 12-14. I'll never forget it as long as I live!
Phil Chadwick - Witton Albion Secretary says: Just to let you
know Bobby Sibbald played 5 matches (1 goal) for Witton Albion
during between the 3rd & 27th December 1977 prior I believeto
him going to LA
claire maire stone (horn) says: my father knows bobby sibbald
from the la aztecs his name is graham horn and i was very chuffed
to this written about him if there is anybody out there that wants
to get in contact with him i have supplied my e-mail address
rebecca stokes says: Bobby Sibbald is my great uncle. He is
still in the States and doing well. There is a photograph of him in
a team line up somewhere around.
cindy coppley says: hi everyone. bobby sibbald happens to be my
uncle. there is a photograph of him when leeds united had a photo
shoot in the 60's. he won quite a few trophies, my son ben has been
given them. he played in the first team for leeds on quite a few
occasions. i was fortunate to be able to watch him play at
newcastle. must say he had a good female following!! i spent my 18
birthday at his home in southport with his wife brenda, sons robert
and jonathan in 1974 and had a great time. as there is only 8 years
between the two of us we were more like brother and sister, if i
remember rightly he was given the freedom of the city and my
grandfather (bobby's dad)was invited as surprise guest.
unfortunately, i haven't seen him in a long while however, i am
hoping that will change next year when my husband (a keen leeds
fan)_our daughter and myself visit my sister in canada. we do
however, exchange cards at christmas. p.s. when bobby played for
leeds he brought terry hibbert to stay at my grandparents home for
the weekend. i had a great time playing football with them both
although jack charlton was my favourite player at the time
Mike says: Last I heard, a few years ago, Bobby was living in
Redondo Beach, Calfornia, and selling, very sucessfully, hair care
products
