"Fat" Frank Strandli was a Norwegian who had been a Leeds fan
since his youth and was overjoyed to be signed up by Leeds from IK
Start for £350,000. Sadly, his enthusiasm wasn't matched by
his pace and goalscoring ability, and he returned to Norway where
he has continued to enjoy some success.
AaB Forever says: Frank Strandli is the best "targetman" ever in
the Danish superleague.
Barry Clemitson says: Saw him play a few times and didn't he
score on his debut against Boro. Was a member of the Norwegian
whites before signing and played as if starstruck to be on the same
pitch as his heroes. As a single lad had too many take aways
(seriously he since got married and got a bit fitter on leaving
leeds) and extra weight meant less pace and he was sold at a
250,000 loss. After todays events might be seen as a bargain
deal.
Anon says: I delivered newspapers to him in Norway, and his
girlfriend was beautiful!
Ja9nge says: Fat Frank is not the nicest of people, but he did a
job at my beloved club Start. He lives now in Kristiansand, Norway,
Start's hometown. And last time I saw him he was munching on a hot
dog :-)
Conor from Cork says: I was at Leeds v Wimbledon in October 93
and this couple sat in front of me didn't say a word all game, not
even to each other, despite Leeds banging in four. Then with a few
minutes left, Franky came off the bench and the two of them went
loo-la for the last few minutes, wildly cheering on every touch in
Norwegian as most other people were leaving. Like sometime out of
Monty Python!
