A Leeds lad through and through, Noel Whelan came through the
junior ranks and got a good run in the side from 1993 to 1994. A lanky
striker, he showed good pace and an eye for goal, but his application
was a little bit suspect. With Tony Yeboah and Brian Deane Wilko's
first choices when they were available, Whelan was generally on the
bench from then on. Gordon Strachan took him down to Coventry where he
faded after initially impressing, before moving to link up with Deane
again at Boro.
Despite a series of injuries last season, he still manaaged seven
goals including a memorable one against Man U in the Cup at the
Riverside, silencing the visiting fans who had spent half the game
taunting the "Leeds reject". When Steve McLaren picked up Malcolm Christie
at the Great Derby Short-of-Cash Sale, Whelan moved further down the
pecking order and had a brief spell on loan at Palace. With little
prospect of Premier League football in 2003-04 he agreed to move
on and took a one-year deal at Millwall.
Anon says: why is his application suspect? what's the matter with
him? What can be done to help him? is it worth the effort?

his earlier years then he could of enjoyed similar success as Wayne
Rooney is currently experiencing.
deano says: we bought him to millwall and he has bust ups with his
own team mates on the pitch. knockin in the goals though.
Carl says: If/when we go down, we should bring Noel Whelan back to
the club. He would cost nothing, and loves the club.

are hoping he'll sign and as a massive fan of the great leeds team of
the 70s (like there is only 1 willie miller there only ever will be 1
billy bremner) i hope a good leeds lad makes his debut against the
huns on saturday.
Amie says: Noel is a Great Bloke. I love him 2 bits, i would really
