A solid centreback who integrated well into a changing team,
Richard Jobson never really become a regular in the starting
line-up due to long-running injuries.
Jobson has had a loan spell at Huddersfield and went back down
south to play at Southend in early 1998 and at 35 his Leeds career
looked to be over.
After returning from his loan spell, Jobson went on to join up
with former boss Joe Royle at Manchester City and was instrumental
in their return to the top flight.
Jobson found opportunities limited when City made it back into
the Premier League, and had a brief spell down at his old club,
Watford. He joined Tranmere to try to help them in their relegation
battle but was unable to prevent them from dropping down into
Division 2 and after just one game in 2001-02 made the short hop to
Rochdale where he used his experience to organise the defence and
help the Spotland side to the play-offs.
He's continued playing through 2002-03 and is currently chairman
of the PFA.
Cheers to Rochdale's programme editor Mark Wilbraham for the
photo of him in his last game for them.
Paula Spencer says: Don't ask me why, but I was thinking about
Richard Jobson this evening and wondered if there was anything
about him on any website. Well, I found this one and it was a treat
to see his handsome face once more! You see, I had a HUGE crush on
him when he was at Watford FC in the early 80's (being a Watford
girl myself) and worshipped him from afar for months, doing nothing
more than sending a rather large valentine card with a well-thought
out (or so I thought!) poem in it to him via the club, and then a
big birthday card for his birthday - both of these in 1984, I
think. I also saw him at Bailey's nightclub one Monday night in
1984, and just sat agog the whole evening - I couldn't help it, I
was so shy!! If it happened now, it would be a different
story...!
Anyway...thank you for letting me take a trip down memory
lane...was well worth the wait!
Sharon says: Hey Paula I too had a great crush on Richard only I
was a lucky girl......say no more. He was lovely and still is like
you I was just looking up people I used to know on Friends reunited
and was wondering what he looks like now, I must say I wasn't
disapointed. From what I can remeber it was a long time ago and we
went to his house in Hemel after a good session in Baileys! It
happened quiet a few times then he got sold and we lost touch, I've
never forgotton him even all those years ago.
Ste says: You strange ladies, but if you like the average lookin
men with strange fringes who are s***e at football you should come
my way - I could rock your world - forget Jobbo - he's probably
dead now.
Simmy says: RJ got us tickets tot he Man City v Gillingham play
off shocker at Wembley a few years back. Nice fella and family.
Ste again says: Only jokin - that was harsh - i liked Jobbo - He
once scored a stunning half volley versus Wimbledon!
Ben Jobson says: Hi.my name is ben jobson and to be honest, what
you are saying about my dad is disgusting, especially you
sharon!
