Signed at the start of the 1999-2000 season, Danny spent a year
in the reserves and probably realises that his prospects for Leeds
will at best be as cover behind our existing set of centre backs -
Lucas Radebe, Jon Woodgate, Michael Duberry, Danny Mills and now
Rio Ferdinand. He made his debut against Barcelona in the Nou Camp,
coming on in the last minute as Lucas Radebe was carried off with
concussion, and has since made several appearances as all the rest
of the central defenders battled for a place on the treatment table
rather than the field. At 6'4", he's tall and looks pretty
confident on the ball, but he needs to focus more on the defensive
aspects of his game in the short term to be of most use to us.
In 2001-02 he picked up an injury in a pre-season game and
failed to return to the side. When his contract expired in May
2002, he stayed on in England and was snapped up by Walsall, with
Sheffield Wednesday also interested. He's been a regular for
Walsall in 2002/03 and has managed to regain his place in the
national side.
Billy McClure says: watched him for Waitakere in NZ - fantastic
player - will become a great, injuries allowing. NZ's best
player.
Amanda Clow-Hewer says: Is he married to Sandra Edge?
