Jabba's Comments

Promising young keeper coming up through the ranks and playing for the reserves in 2002-03. He was recommended to Leeds by former player Peter Hampton, and in 2003-04 he took over as second-choice keeper behind Paul Robinson after Nigel Martyn's departure, and was selected for the England U-21 squad.

Made his first-team debut when he came on as a replacement after Robbo was sent off against Boro, and then had to make his first ever start at Old Trafford while Robbo served his suspension. A creditable performance against ManU was followed by a similar role in the 0-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge on the last day of the season after Robbo was sidelined because the club had already agreed a deal to sell him to Spurs. It will be interesting to see if Kevin Blackwell gives him a real chance in 2004 or tries to recruit a new starter and continues to use Carson on the bench: on the evidence of two high-profile games last season plus his England U21 appearances, he deserves a go.
