Roly Depear was signed from non-league Boston United - a tall and
strong centre half - but only made 5 appearances for Major Frank
Buckley's side. Probably the most significant thing about Depear's
career with Leeds was his departure: he was used in a part-exchange
deal with Newport that brought Harold Williams to Elland Road. Since
Depear had only cost Leeds £500 and was valued at 16 times that
amount a year later as part of the deal, he proved a very shrewd
acquisition by the club.
