Aubrey Powell's time at Leeds had just got underway when he had
a career-threatening leg fracture during a game. It was 18 months
before he resumed his career - and then he had less than a year
before war broke out. He played for Leeds on numerous occasions
during World War 2, when he also turned out for Wales. He won 5
full caps while at Leeds, playing in the home internationals, and
went on to pick up 3 more after he left. He played non-league
football for a couple of years after dropping out of the
professional game.
Peter Moore says: Saw Aubrey Powell play when I was a schoolboy,
late 1940's. In later years when I was working as a sales Rep, I
met up with him several times in Leeds, because he was also
travelling selling for a local sweet confectioner, which I remember
belonged to his father in law.
Emma Powell says: I am Aubrey Powell's grandaughter he has seen
this fact file and was astonished to see that he was on the
internet. He suffers badly from arthritis in his hips and knees but
still talks about his days when he was a footballer.
