Signed by Coventry at the age of 23 for the comparatively
princely sum of £20,000, Andy Williams was a tall midfielder
with decent pace. Wilko - and many others - had been impressed by
his form at Rotherham, and he became the first signing for Leeds
under the new regime. He spent a lot of his career at Leeds on the
bench - but failing to break into a midfield of Batty, Strachan,
McAllister and Speed is hardly a disgrace. Released halfway through
the Championship season, he played on for a variety of lower
division clubs - including two years back at Rotherham, but the
injuries started to mount up and restrict his opportunities.
Lee Taylor says: I played with him as a kid on our local playing
fields. I also went to the Albion with him, he was a big Baggies
fan especially Brian Robson. Good Footballer, nice lad and a clever
chap.
