Son of Frank, nephew of Eddie, he promised much when first
introduced to the team. George Graham didn't use him much, and he
left for Nottingham Forest at the start of the 1998-99 season. He
had a patchy time of it there, coming more into his own when Paul
Hart took over, but was one of the many players cleared out in
summer 2002 - moving to another financially-troubled club at
Bradford.
Martin Hudson says: First seen him play at Old Trafford for
Leeds where he hit the post and nearly chipped Peter Schmichel in
1996. Andy is a brilliant manipulater of the ball, but British
managers-media-fans etc aren't keen on these types. (see Joe Cole)
He is a joy to watch and is the answer to England's left wing
problem, but he will probably play for Scotland instead because his
father and uncle did.
Ade Cox (Scotland) says: I remember watching Andy play for Leeds
in 1995-6, and he had a dazzling performance in the League Cup
Final against Aston Villa. Leeds lost 0-3 that day, of course, but
Andy's creative, attacking play was the highlight of the team's
performance. I was amazed when, after that, he so was rarely used,
and then allowed to leave. He did OK at Nottm Forest, and has now
really begun to score goals regularly at Bradford, occasionally
showing that dazzling skill he once showed at Leeds. He's still
young, and, if it were up to me, I'd be looking to get him back to
Leeds now. He's just the kind of pacey, attacking player we need
here in 2003 to unsettle Premiership defences.
jen says: he's very fit indeed
rachael says: top eye candy!!! wish he'd joined the blades ages
ago. maybe we'd have stood a better chance of going up this
season.
