John Daniels made many appearances for Leeds during World War 2,
but only took the field once during peacetime. I'm not sure if the
result of that game - a 1-7 defeat at Stamford Bridge - had
anything to do with his lack of appearances, but he did well enough
for Stockport, albeit at a slightly lower level.
Mike Daniels says: I saw my Dad play many times during the 40's
He also played for Lincoln City. I have a medal of his that reads
"Champions M/C North End 32-33 J Daniels". After his soccer career
he went to Loughboro College and then to St John's School for the
Deaf in Boston Spa. He was instrumental in bringing soccer to the
school and setting up the rules of the game to play to a flag as
well as the whistle. I recall St John's won the area trophy several
times. My Dad was a great proponent of youth and worked with them
both in the UK and Canada. Somewhere we have family albums of great
soccer pictures of the era. He always taught me to be the very best
you can be. Today I mentor young folks too in the Air Cadet
Movement in Canada. It really was nice to see my dad's name in your
profiles.
Peter Daniels (Jack's son) says: I remember when i was about 4
or 5 and dad took me to Elland road to watch a match, things are
vague, but have lots of newspaper clippings of Dad playing at
various clubs, Mum and dad passed on some time ago but all my kids
have the black and white photoes of their Grandfather playing
soccer, its nice to see this, cheers.
Alex Duguid says: During the 50's I was at St John School for
the Deaf at Boston Spa, and remember John Daniels as he was an
inspiration to us. He taught us to played football at both junior
and senior to a level that we were a good football team and won
many trophy under him.
Peter Daniels says: Hello. I have just finished giving all the
children/Grandchildren copies of dad playing soccer, trying to keep
his memory alive within the family. Thanks Again
Rich Daniels says: I never met my Grandfather. I wish I had. I
can see him through my Father (Mike Daniels)...............If I
turn out half as good as these 2 gents I'll do fine
Mike Daniels says: Jack Daniels also played for Lincoln City not
sure of the dates, but in was after Leeds United he retired from
soccer in 1946 due to a knee injury...Jack was born in Manchester
Oct 6 1918. Sorry about getting the dates mixed up..dad died in
1970 at the age of 56..so I guess the DOB is 1914..I have a picture
